Oil Pressure Light On? What It Means
The red oil can light means the engine has lost oil pressure, not just that an oil change is due. Without oil pressure, the engine's moving parts aren't protected and can be badly damaged quickly.
If the oil pressure light comes on while driving, pull over safely and turn off the engine as soon as you can. Driving even a few minutes with no oil pressure can destroy an engine. Don't restart it until the oil level has been checked.

Oil Pressure Light On: common questions
Is the oil light the same as an oil change reminder?
No. The red oil can means low oil pressure and needs attention right away. A maintenance or oil-life reminder just means service is coming due.
The light went off after I added oil. Am I fine?
Possibly, but the oil went somewhere. Keep an eye on the level and have it checked for a leak or oil burning, so it doesn't happen again on the road.
